Book: Batman #35
Writer: Scott Snyder
Artist: Greg Capullo
Summary from Comixology: “From the superstar creative team that brought you a new start to the Caped Crusader comes the story that could end him. Be there in October for the biggest, deadliest and most epic story yet from writer Scott Snyder and artist Greg Capullo!
“Batman: Endgame” begins here!”
Overview:
It’s been two months since the epic Batman: Zero Year story came to an end. It has also been two months since Snyder and Capullo have worked on the book together. Capullo took a two month break from the title and let someone fill in on issue #33 and the Futures End tie-in #34. The book was not bad without Capullo, but it’s still kick-ass to have him back on it. His work is flawless and this is no exception. After this issue there is only one thing I am seriously craving from DC, and that’s seeing Capullo on a Justice League book. He teased us with the JL in this book, and it was everything I could dream of. And the “Justice Buster”, my God… that was amazing.
The Good:
I have said it once, and I’ll repeat it until my face turns blue, Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo ARE Batman. I’m one of the few remaining Frank Miller fans (please forgive me, I beg of you…) but, after the Court of Owls arc, when I think of the perfect Batman creative team, its these guys. The issue starts with a great backstory of The Gotham Royal Theater and the first line of the comic comes full circle with one of the last lines. Sometimes in comics it’s easy to get lost in the chaos and hustle of an action scene. But this is where Capullo truly shines as an artist, he keeps it clean and easy to follow, he makes it flawless and a true work of art. His attention to detail is also great, I enjoyed seeing an Owl perched inside Old Wayne Tour. Snyder keeps the story interesting from panel one on page one and then leaves us terrified with the final splash. And when I say terrified, I mean I’m looking at the image right now and still have chills.

The Bad:
This is DC’s fault with marketing. The price was jacked up from $3.99 to $4.99 and the internet did not approve of it. Even Snyder took to twitter to voice his opinion with DC Comics AND they listened after this issue the price will drop back down to $3.99 (our wallets rejoice). Now, I understand that for the $4.99 price we got extra pages, but we also go a major mistake; one one of the pages featuring Wonder Woman its says “So the only to beat her is with a lie,” they forgot the word “way.” I feel like if you are going to charge an extra dollar, you better be damn sure everything is grammatically correct. (NOTE: If you find flaws in my grammar it’s because I do this for free).
The Final Say:
This is going to be one hell of a fun ride. If you haven’t read the Batman title yet, this is a great time to jump on and experience one of the best comics being published right now. The grammar mistake really bugged me so for that the book gets a 3 out of 4. Make sure you read the bonus story after the end, by James Tynion IV. It will put a new spin on an old character that will leave you questioning everything. And remember, it’s told from the perspective of someone who is insane.
