Today commemorates the anniversary of Guy Fawkes’ failed attempt on King James I life, also known as the Gunpowder Plot/Treason. On November 5, 1605, Guy Fawkes, and other plotters, stockpiled barrels of gunpoweder under the House of Lords, in England. The authorities received an anonymous letter, and found Fawkes guarding the explosives and the plot was foiled. However, most of us don’t really care about that. We remember it as being the day college kids all over the country watch V for Vendetta, talk about how much better the graphic novel is, and wear Guy Fawkes masks.
V for Vendetta is a graphic novel written by Alan Moore. It is set in a dystopian 1990’s and follows V, a mysterious masked figure who revolts against the totalitarian government. The movie stars an alliteration loving Hugo Weaving and Natalie Portman (my nerd crush), and is definitely worth a watch. Go check it out.
