I remember when I was a kid, I used to play with TMNT toys and watch the cartoon, but I wasn’t allowed to watch the movies. I went over to a friends house after church one day and while we were scarfing chicken nuggets his mom asked, “You boys wanna watch the Ninja Turtles movie or Terminator?” Wait… what? Terminator? I’m 8 lady. Are you f—ing serious? My friend looks at me, ” Which one do you wanna watch?” Me = deer in headlights, at this point. This is normal for this kid. I could not comprehend it. Anyway, I thought to myself, “Which one of these would my mom freak out the least over me watching…?” That was assuming she found out at all, cause I sure as hell wasn’t gonna say anything. I settled on Ninja Turtles cause at least it was rated PG. I was nervous, the whole time we watched it, that my mom was just gonna randomly show up and I’d be buried under the house for watching the movie, but man did I love it. And then there was a second one?! “Lets watch that too!” Holy crap! It’s even better! (The third one was still in theaters at this point I think.)
All that to say, the Turtles were a big part of my youth. I honestly even dug the animated TMNT flick from a few years back. It wasn’t terrible, and my kids really like it. Based on those leaked pics, I’d say there’s potential for this new one. Although, I will say, Shredder does look suspiciously like another toy-line-villain previously brought to the big screen by Mikey Bay…
